Help & questions
Simple answers about using your case page. Tap a question to see the answer.
The short version
- Open the email from our office and tap the button inside it (for example Start my intake form or Send my documents).
- Your case page opens. It only shows what we need from you right now — a form to fill out, or documents to send.
- Do that step. Forms save by themselves while you type, so you can stop and come back later.
- Come back whenever we email you. There is no password to remember.
The basics
What is this page?
It is your own private page for your bankruptcy case with our office. On it you fill out your forms, send us your documents, and see our answers to your calls — all in one place.
It works on a phone, a tablet or a computer. Most people use their phone.
Do I need to download an app or make a password?
No. There is nothing to download and no password to create or remember. When you need to sign in, we email you a 6-digit code. That's it.
Is my information safe?
Yes. Your page only opens after you type a code that we send to your own email — so even if someone gets your link, they can't get in. The documents you send are kept private; only our office can see them.
Never share your 6-digit code. Nobody from our office will ever ask you for it.
Using a borrowed or shared phone or computer? Tap Sign out at the top of your page when you finish.
Can I see the page in Spanish?
Yes. Tap 🌐 Español at the top of the page — on your case page and inside each questionnaire. We remember your choice, and our emails always come in both English and Spanish.
What will I do on my case page?
Your case moves in steps. Each step shows up on your page only when our office is ready for it, and we email you each time:
- Opening Sheet — a short form about you, before your first appointment.
- Your questionnaire — more detailed questions, when our office tells you it's time.
- Your documents — a list of documents to send us.
- Your requests — updates on anything you asked us about.
If your page says Nothing else is needed right now, you're all caught up. We'll email you when there is something new.
Signing in
How do I open my case page?
The easiest way: open the email from our office and tap the button inside it. It signs you in right away. The button works for 24 hours.
Any time, from any phone or computer:
- Go to portal.attorneycordero.com.
- Type the email address you gave our office, then tap Continue.
- Check your email. We sent you a 6-digit code.
- Type the code on the page and tap Continue. Your case page opens.
The page says “Verify it's you.” What do I do?
That's the normal safety step. Tap Email me a code. We email a 6-digit code to the address shown on the screen. Type the code and tap Continue — or just tap the button inside that email.
I didn't get the code.
- Wait a minute or two — sometimes email is slow.
- Look in your Spam or Junk folder. In Gmail, also check Promotions.
- Make sure you typed the same email address you gave our office.
- Tap Send a new code to get a fresh one.
Still nothing? Call us at (305) 267-3376 and we'll check the email address we have for you.
It says my code isn't right.
- Check the 6 numbers again — it's easy to mix up one digit.
- Use the newest code. When you ask for a new code, the old one stops working.
- A code only lasts 15 minutes. If yours is older, tap Send a new code.
- If the page says there were too many attempts, wait a few minutes and try again.
Do I have to sign in every time?
No. After you sign in, your phone or computer keeps you signed in for 30 days. On a different phone or computer you'll need a new code.
My spouse and I share one email address.
That's fine. After you type the code, the page asks Which case? Tap your own name.
I lost the email with my link.
No problem — you don't need it. Go to portal.attorneycordero.com, type your email, and we'll send you a code. (See “How do I open my case page?” above.)
It says “This link has expired.”
For your safety, a link stops working if it isn't used for about 6 months. Call us at (305) 267-3376 and we'll send you a new one right away.
It says you don't have my email address.
We need an email address to send you codes. Call us at (305) 267-3376 and we'll add it for you.
Your Opening Sheet
What is the Opening Sheet?
It's the first form — basic information about you and your situation. Please fill it out before your first appointment. It helps us get ready to meet you.
How do I fill it out?
- On your case page, tap Start next to Opening Sheet. (It says Continue if you already began.)
- Answer each question. Questions with a * must be answered. If you don't know an answer to any other question, it's OK to leave it blank.
- Private numbers, like the last 4 digits of your Social Security number, show as dots. Tap Show to check what you typed. We only ask for the last 4 — never the whole number.
- When you're done, tap Submit intake at the bottom, then confirm.
Do I have to finish it all at once?
No. Your answers save by themselves a couple of seconds after you type — you'll see ✓ Saved. You can close the page and come back later; just tap Continue.
It says “⚠ Not saved.”
Your phone probably lost its internet for a moment. Check that you have Wi-Fi or data, then keep typing — the next change tries again. Don't close the page until you see ✓ Saved.
I can't send it — some boxes are red.
Boxes outlined in red are required and still empty. Fill them in, then tap Submit intake again.
I sent it and now it's gone. Did I do something wrong?
No — that's normal. Once we have it, your page shows Opening Sheet received and the form closes. To change an answer, call us at (305) 267-3376.
Your questionnaire
When do I get the questionnaire?
When our office is ready for the next step of your case, we'll email you “Your questionnaire is ready” and it will appear on your case page. Until then, there's nothing you need to do.
Right after it you get a second email: your appointment at our office. Your questionnaire and all of your documents must be uploaded before that day. The date also shows at the top of your case page.
How does it work?
The questionnaire is two forms: Personal Package and Household belongings (Schedule B). Tap Start on each one.
- Each form is split into short parts (for example “Part 2 of 9”). Use Next › and ‹ Back at the bottom to move between them.
- Answer Yes or No by tapping it. Sometimes a Yes opens a few more questions right below.
- Have more than one of something, like cars or properties? Tap the + Add another… button for each extra one.
- Money totals add up by themselves — no math needed.
- Everything saves by itself as you go. You can stop and come back any time.
How do I sign?
Some parts ask for your signature. Type your full name in the box, or tap ✎ Draw and sign with your finger.
If it says Write this line in your own handwriting, it must be drawn: tap ✎ Draw and write it with your finger.
How do I send the questionnaire?
Go to the last part of each form and tap Submit. If anything is missing, the form takes you to it — a question marked * or outlined in red, or a missing signature.
Once it's sent, the form shows as received on your case page. When your Personal Package is in, your list of documents to send appears there too, and we email you.
It says “Enter exactly 4 digits.”
That box wants only the last 4 numbers of an account — no letters, spaces or dashes. You'll find them on a statement or on the card.
I made a mistake after I sent it.
Once a form is sent it's locked, so nothing changes by accident. Call us at (305) 267-3376 and we'll correct it for you.
I'm self-employed. What is the income page?
If you answer that you are self-employed, your Personal Package adds a page Income from self-employment. For each of the last 7 months, type what your business brought in and what it spent to run (an estimate is fine), and about how much you pay in taxes each month — the profit and the averages work themselves out. Then sign at the bottom. We make the signed form and a profit & loss statement for each month from it and add them to your documents for you — you don't need to send them.
My spouse and I are filing together. Do we both fill it out?
Yes. Each of you has your own case page and signs in with your own email. Some questions are just for you and some are shared.
When you're done, tap Submit my part. That sends only your part — your spouse can still finish theirs, and change the shared answers, until they tap it too. The form counts as sent once both parts are in.
If your spouse joins your case later, their link shows just their own questions — the shared answers are already in.
Can I answer my spouse's questions for them?
Yes, if it's easier — before you send your part. In your questionnaire, after your own questions, there is a page with your spouse's name. Tap the button there and their questions appear, marked with their name.
Your spouse still checks those answers and signs their own part on their link (or at our office) — only they can sign for themselves.
We need your spouse's email to send them their link. If we don't have it, your case page asks for it under Your spouse's details.
Sending documents
How do I know which documents to send?
As soon as you send your Personal Package, a list appears on your case page under Your documents and we email you “We need some documents from you”. Each item says what to send. The bar at the top shows how many we have (for example “3 of 12 received”).
How do I send a document from my phone?
- Find the item on your list and tap Upload document.
- Your phone asks where the file is. Choose Choose File (or Files) for a PDF. Only your photo ID, your Social Security card and items that ask for photos take a picture: Take Photo (or Camera) or Photo Library (or Gallery). The words depend on your phone.
- Wait while it sends — a big file can take a minute. Keep the page open.
- When you see Received — our team will take a look., we have it — a person from our office will check it.
It says “PDF only.” How do I make a PDF?
Your documents — bank statements, pay stubs, tax returns, bills, court papers — must be PDF files. We can't take a photo or a screenshot of them. Only your photo ID, your Social Security card and items that ask for photos can be pictures.
- Download it as a PDF from your bank's app or website, your job's payroll website, or your tax program or the IRS website.
- Only have it on paper? On an iPhone, open Notes, tap the camera and choose Scan Documents, then share it as a PDF. On Android, open Google Drive, tap + and choose Scan.
- Then tap Upload document on the item and choose the PDF from your files.
Tips for a good photo
- Put the paper on a flat table with good light. Near a window is great.
- Hold the phone straight above the paper so all four corners fit in the picture.
- Make sure the words are sharp, not blurry. Tap the screen to focus before you take it.
- Avoid shadows and the glare from the flash.
- Send the whole page, not a small piece of a screenshot.
How do I get a PDF from my bank?
Bank statements must be PDF files — a photo won't go through. Your bank's app or website gives you one.
- Open your bank's app (or sign in on its website).
- Look for Statements or Documents. It's often under Accounts or More / Menu.
- Tap the month you need, then Download or Share → Save to Files.
- Come back to your case page, tap Upload document, choose Choose File / Files, and pick the statement you saved.
Every bank is a little different. If you get stuck, a clear photo of the paper statement works too.
I already sent everything — why are you asking for another month?
Your case is filed with your newest statements. After your documents are reviewed, each month that ends before your filing appointment shows up under For your filing appointment on your page, and we email you. Send just that month — everything else you sent stays done.
Some items show a list of months.
Some documents are needed for several months. You'll see one button per month — tap a month and send that month's document. Each month turns green with a ✓ when we have it, and the label shows how many are in (for example 3/7).
A month can take more than one file — pay stubs, for example, if you're paid every week or every two weeks. Tap Add another next to a green month to send the rest.
Pay stubs follow how often you told us you're paid: every two weeks or twice a month, 2 for each month; every week, 4. A month shows “1 of 2 sent” until all of them are in, and turns green when they are.
If we need more months later, the new months appear on the same item and we'll email you.
My tax returns are asked for year by year.
Each tax year has its own card with two parts: Tax return — the full return, every page — and W-2s / 1099s — every W-2 and 1099 you got that year. The year is done when both are in.
Didn't get any W-2 or 1099 that year (for example, only Social Security)? Tap I didn't get a W-2 or 1099 for … under that part. Tapped it by mistake? Tap Undo.
Can I add a note to a document?
Yes. Above the button on that item, tap + Add a note for our team (optional), type your note (for example which account it is), then send the file. Our team sees your note with that file.
I have a document that isn't on my list.
- Scroll to the bottom of your list, to Have another document for us?, and tap Send another document.
- Type what it is (for example “letter from the IRS”) and, if you like, a note for our team.
- Tap Choose the file and send and pick the file. It shows up in your list under “Other”, and a person from our office will look at it.
My document has more than one page.
Send it as one PDF — it keeps all the pages together. For photos (your ID, items that ask for photos), send the first one, then tap Upload another for each extra.
On items with a list of months, send one PDF per month. Need more than one file for a month? Tap Add another on that month.
What do the labels mean?
- Needed — we still need this from you.
- Received ✓ — we have it. Thank you!
- Received — our team will take a look — we have it, and a person from our office will check it. Nothing else to do.
- Please re-send — we need a new copy. Read the note that starts with Why:, then send it again.
- Not needed anymore — you don't need to send this one.
My upload didn't work.
- Check that you have Wi-Fi or data, then tap Upload document again. Nothing is lost.
- Documents must be PDF files. Photos (JPG, PNG, HEIC) go through only for your photo ID, your Social Security card and items that ask for photos.
- Each file can be up to 25 MB. If yours is bigger, a PDF from the app or a normal photo is usually much smaller.
Do I have to send everything at once?
No. Send what you have now and come back for the rest — your list remembers what we already have. We'll email you a reminder about anything still missing.
Can I use a computer instead?
Yes. It works the same way: click Upload document and pick the file. You can also drag a file from your computer and drop it on the item.
How do I know you have everything?
When everything on your list is in, your page says “All done — we have everything we need for now. Thank you!” and we email you to let you know. Our office may still add an item later — if so, we'll email you.
Signing documents
How do I sign the documents you sent me?
- Tap Review and sign in our email — or open your case page, where they are under “Documents to sign”.
- Check I agree to sign electronically and tap Continue.
- Draw your signature in the box with your finger (or your mouse) and tap Use this signature.
- Read the pages. Tap each yellow Sign here — Next place to sign takes you to the next one.
- When every place is signed, tap Finish signing.
You don't write your name or the date anywhere — the blanks marked “Your name: automatic” and “Date: automatic” fill in by themselves when you finish.
Is signing on my phone as good as signing on paper?
Yes. Your electronic signature counts the same as signing by hand. Each signature is recorded with its date, time and internet address (IP). If you'd rather sign on paper, call us at (305) 267-3376.
I don't like my signature — can I change it?
Yes, until you sign the first place: tap Change my signature at the top. After that, call us at (305) 267-3376.
Where is my signed copy?
On your case page, under “Documents to sign”: tap Download my signed copy. If you're filing with your spouse, it's ready once you have both signed.
Your requests (questions to our office)
What is “Your requests”?
When you call our office, or send us a message with Support, your request shows on your case page so you can follow it. Each request has a label:
- In progress — we're working on it.
- We replied — we answered you. Tap it to read our reply.
- Resolved — it's taken care of.
How do I answer you?
- Tap the request on your case page.
- Type your message in the box at the bottom.
- Tap Send. Our team is notified right away.
Even if a request says Resolved, you can still reply — it opens again for our team.
Can I start a new request on the page?
- Tap Support at the bottom right of your case page.
- Pick what it is about, and write your message.
- Tap Send to our office. You'll see your request right away, and our answer will appear there.
You can also call us at (305) 267-3376 — we'll add it for you.
Emails from us
What emails will I get?
- A 6-digit code when you sign in.
- A note when there's a new step for you: your intake form, your questionnaire, or documents we need.
- Your appointment at our office — and a new email if it changes.
- A Reminder: if a step is still waiting on you.
- A note when we answer one of your requests, or when a document needs to be sent again.
- A thank-you when we have all your documents.
Our automatic emails never include your personal details — just a short note and a button to your case page.
How do I know an email is really from you?
Our emails are signed Law Offices of Patrick L. Cordero, and their buttons always open portal.attorneycordero.com. We will never ask you for your 6-digit code. If something looks strange, don't tap it — call us at (305) 267-3376.
How do I stop the reminders?
Finish the step the reminder is about — fill out the form or send the documents — and the reminders stop by themselves.
After your case is filed
Do I still use the page after my case is filed?
Yes, once a year. For 7 years after your case is filed, we need a copy of each year's federal tax return.
Every February a new item appears on your list — for example Federal tax return — 2025. Send it the same way as any other document. We'll email you a reminder every month until we have it.
Still need help?
Call our office — we're happy to walk you through it.
